Jeonju Cathedral to Nambu Market: a Soup-and-Rice Walk
Pair Jeondong Cathedral and Pungnammun Gate with bean sprout soup and rice inside Jeonju Nambu Market.
Cathedral, gate, then lunch
- Begin outside Jeondong Cathedral. Enter only when visitor access permits; services take priority.
- Continue to Pungnammun (풍남문), the gate linking the Hanok Village side with the market.
- Find Hyundaiok Nambu Market (현대옥 남부시장점) inside the market lanes. Keep the branch name visible: other Hyundaiok restaurants are separate destinations.

Start at Jeondong Cathedral
Use Jeondong Cathedral (전동성당) as the meeting point on Taejo-ro, beside the Hanok Village. This route suits a first visit with one meal between sightseeing stops. The official Jeonju walking map connects the cathedral, Pungnammun Gate and Nambu Market in that order.
Order bean sprout soup and rice
Kongnamul-gukbap (콩나물국밥) combines bean sprouts, broth and rice in one bowl. This branch offers a choice of heat levels and optional squid. Decide on the squid before ordering; it is an addition to the bowl. The small market setting also makes luggage space a consideration.
Adjust the visit around access
The official cathedral information excludes Mass times from visitor opening. If entry is unavailable, keep the gate and market portion. Rain is a reason to shorten the outdoor stop and eat first, provided the restaurant is open. For arrival by car, the official village map marks paid parking near Nambu Market and Pungnammun.
